Moulsham Junior School Sports Premium Funding
Sports premium funding was introduced in September 2013 to support the teaching and learning within P.E in primary schools across the country. This year, the PE and Sport Premium continues to be funded and is designed to help children get an active start in life, supporting primary schools to improve the quality of their PE and sport provision so that pupils experience the benefits of regular exercise.
We are committed to ensuring all our children have the best possible opportunities in sport and physical activity across a broad and balanced curriculum. We track the progress and achievement of every child and do all we can to make sure each child achieves their potential. We also ensure that no group of children are disadvantaged due to their gender, ethnic origin or family income or background. We enable all pupils to be engaged in physical activity for at least two hours per week through physical education lessons, enabling a physically active playground and running a large number of out of hours clubs, before, during and after school. Furthermore, we pride ourselves on our sporting progress and achievements across a diverse range of sports, entering regular competitions through the our fantastic local partnership (the Chelmsford School Sports Partnership) as well as school leagues.
We are delighted to announce that the government has continued with the current level of funding, matching the last academic year. The sum allocated to the school is calculated on the number of children on role at the school at the beginning of the academic year, plus a further £16,000 per school. The amount paid per eligible child was £10, plus the £16,000 per school. We continue to be both encouraged and excited by the prospect of this impact!
Last year, the funding was used to benefit the following:
· Employ a sport’s coach to help increase extra-curricular participation, quality first teaching and intervention as well as excellence in Sport.
· Increase staff’s confidence and ability in the teaching of PE.
· Maintain the attendance at sporting clubs.
· Maintain number of competitive events attended from previous year.
· Providing transport to sporting events.
· Purchasing of sports equipment and kit.
· Develop and support links with clubs in the local area, partnering for CPD, tailored sessions as well as hosting of inclusive competitions for schools in the Chelmsford area.
The school recognises the importance of children receiving quality physical education and being given the opportunity outside the curriculum to take part in different sporting clubs and competitions. The Sports Premium funding has allowed us to continue and extend what we already do – to monitor children’s progress and to give additional support when required. We are very fortunate to have a wonderful Sports Coach who not only supports, but also further knowledge and skills in a variety of sports. As our wealth of knowledge grows, so does our ability to deliver a wider range of extra-curricular clubs to further enhance development. Whilst the COVID-19 situation currently restricts these opportunities, we continue to develop the PE curriculum in line with current guidance as well as work with the CSSP through virtual competition participation.
Our governors are closely monitoring the impact of the sports premium money on the children’s physical education. Information on the impact of these activities will be published here.
