Welcome to Year 3
We are lucky being Year 3 teachers as we are able to spend time with the children that are in our class before they start the school. As part of the transition, our feeder schools have many visits to Moulsham Junior School before starting here. Many activities are completed throughout the Spring and Summer terms. These include reading buddies, writing letters to each other to find out about life at Moulsham Juniors, coming into school for a lunch time, treasure hunts, a computing session and a DT afternoon. This makes life much easier for our new Year 3 children when they start.
Our Year 3 curriculum is very exciting. Lots of the year 3 children are able to discuss what they find enjoyable. One of the subjects that the children enjoy is learning about the Stone Age and many of our other subjects within that term use The Stone Age as a focus for the activities, such as cave paintings in Art and designing a stone age computer game using Scratch. The pupils also have fun creating puppet theatres as part of a DT topic.
In Year 3 we go on trips to Colchester Castle to find out more about The Romans. We also go to garden centres to buy our own seeds which we plant and use within our Science lessons. Part of our Geography topic is to find out more about the local area. We do this by going to Moulsham Lodge shops and questioning members of the public to find out their views on the area.
We enjoy the fact that children are able to make an easy transition to us and can therefore settle into year 3 and their learning quickly.
Thank you for inviting us- always a great event. https://t.co/DH6wuRTjRL@Moulshamjunior
Year 6 had an incredible, unexpected day...The children had to create a special edition of the Daily Prophet. These are finalists from each class and a picture of our winning team from 6Kemp. https://t.co/88JQLiRRoZ@Moulshamjunior
@watsoncomedian We always discuss with parents- have also had twins together and then in separate classes further on as children develop. But always a joint decision.@Moulshamjunior
